- Description:
- ● A Reducer Bushing is a pipe fitting with external male threads and smaller internal female threads on the inside of the bushing.
- Uses:
- ● A Threaded reducing bushing, also referred to as a reducer bushing, is used to reduce or increase a pipe thread size.
- ● Often used to reduce the size of a female threaded opening so that it can accept a smaller thread.
- ● Can be used to connect two pipes of different sizes by changing the thread size.
- Advantages:
- ● The biggest advantage of a pipe bushing compared to a bell reducer is the space it saves.
- ● A threaded bushing fits largely into a female pipe thread with only a portion of the fitting protruding.
- Installation:
- ● Thread the external male NPT threads into a female NPT thread, to decrease the female thread size.
- ● Thread the internal female NPT threads onto a male NPT thread, to increase the male thread size.
- Size Classification:
- ● These Threaded Reducers are classified according to larger male thread on the outside and by the smaller female threads on the inside.
- ● For Example: a 2" x 1" Bushing will have a 2" external male pipe thread and a 1" internal female pipe thread.
- Also Known as a:
- ● Hex Bushing.
- ● Pipe Bushing.
- ● Threaded Bushing Reducer.
- Alternate Options:
- ● An alternative are Bell Reducers which are also pipe reducers, however instead of having male threads x female threads, they have female threads on either end.

- Materials:
- ● Our NPT threaded bushings are manufactured with 304 & 316 stainless steel.
More Information:
A threaded bushing also called hex bushing, is a thread reducer used in mechanical, piping and plumbing applications, to connect pipes or fittings of different sizes. The Hex head shape allows for easier tightening and loosening with a socket or wrench, making these bushings ideal for applications where they may need to be removed or tightened. These threaded pipe reducers are designed with larger external threads and reduced internal threads, allowing for connections between pipe fittings of different sizes. The larger male thread of the stainless steel bushing is designed screw into the larger pipe or fitting, while the smaller female thread screws onto the smaller pipe or fitting. In effect these bushings reduce the thread of a female threaded pipe fitting. Conversely they can also be used to increase the thread size of a male threaded fitting. In other words, these pipe bushings are able to connect a female thread and a male thread of a reduced size. Hex bushings are shaped like a hex head plug with external threads and with a hole bored in the center lined with smaller internal threads. Stainless steel reducing bushings save space compared to bell reducer couplings, since most of the stainless bushing fits inside the female thread it is connecting to, with only some of the thread and the hex head exposed. They have tapered National Pipe threads (NPT) which simplifies installation, and facilitates a secure and leak-proof connection making them ideal for a range of projects, from industrial applications to plumbing systems. These NPT thread reducers are manufactured out of stainless steel 304 and 316 making them robust and resistance to corrosion and rust resistant.
